Teach. Inspire. Make a difference.
History matters. The way we teach it matters too.

At The Hayfield School, we want young people to leave us with more than knowledge of the past. We want them to understand why events happened, how we know about them, why interpretations can differ and what History can teach us about the world around us.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of History to join our team and contribute to the continued success of the subject within our school.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about History, enjoys working with young people and wants to be part of a supportive and collaborative department. Whether you are an experienced teacher or at an earlier stage of your career, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The role

As a Teacher of History, you will teach engaging and well-planned lessons across the relevant key stages, helping students to develop their knowledge, understanding and enthusiasm for the subject.

You will:

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a teacher who combines strong subject knowledge with enthusiasm, warmth and a genuine commitment to young people.

You will have:

We value teachers who are reflective, collaborative and keen to develop their practice. You will be supported by colleagues within the department and through our high-quality programme of professional development.

Why join us?

At The Hayfield School, we believe that great schools are built by great people.

We are ambitious for our students and expect high professional standards, but we also believe strongly in kindness, decency and treating people as individuals.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection recognised that:

“Leaders have created a culture in which the school’s values of kindness, decency and a strong work ethic are lived out by pupils and staff.”

Staff wellbeing matters to us. Ofsted also recognised that leaders consider the impact of decisions on staff wellbeing and that staff feel valued in their roles.

You will join a supportive professional community where colleagues are encouraged to develop, collaborate and share good practice. We offer a strong programme of professional development and opportunities to develop your career.

You will also benefit from:

Why History matters

We want our students to understand that History is more than a collection of stories from the past. It gives them the opportunity to question evidence, consider different perspectives, challenge assumptions and develop well-reasoned arguments.

As a Teacher of History, you will play an important part in helping students develop these skills and encouraging them to become thoughtful, curious and informed young people.

Come and meet us

We know that choosing your next school is an important decision, and we want prospective applicants to have the opportunity to find out more about us.

We warmly encourage you to visit the school, meet our staff and students and experience our culture for yourself.

If you are passionate about History and would like to join a school that is ambitious for its students and genuinely values its staff, we would love to hear from you.
