At The Hayfield School, we want every student to be known. That is why we have a dedicated team of highly skilled professionals working alongside our teaching staff to provide really effective pastoral care.
At its simplest, pastoral care is the provision a school makes to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of students. It is the essential foundation upon which learning can take place. Not only does effective pastoral care support students in their learning, it facilitates the development of their self-esteem, social skills and ability to cope with stress. It’s important that students feel safe and valued in their school environment and pastoral care can help ensure this.
A critical feature of pastoral care is how well staff know their pupils’ unique circumstances. Ultimately, the best care is defined on the quality of relationships and high expectations. In securing these, we always seek to work in strong partnership with parents and carers.
It is for these reasons that the Pastoral Team play an integral part in school life. Whether they are at the school gate welcoming students at the start of the school day, visiting lessons to check on learning, or out on duty at Break of Lunchtime, our Pastoral Team work tirelessly to support our children and young people.
